“Let none be left behind”
Crossroads School is an independent, remedial school centrally based in Johannesburg. Our school motto “Let None Be Left Behind” epitomises the way we teach and encapsulates our all-encompassing approach to remedial education where we create a Plan for Every Child. Founded in 1966, Crossroads School has established its roots with an in-depth understanding of children faced with learning challenges. Our environment is best suited to children who have the potential to learn but who display current barriers in achieving this ultimate outcome.

Crossroads provides an encouraging and nurturing environment with each learner receiving the individual attention needed to establish and build skills to learn effectively. Learning challenges are caused by various factors and Crossroads School is equipped to understand and support primary school children affected by these. The aim at Crossroads School is to unlock the potential within the child in order to assist them to return to and excel within a mainstream school environment. Not only does the school concentrate on the learner’s academic capabilities but also on social and emotional growth, thereby ensuring that a disciplined and focused child emerges, ready to take on the challenges of mainstream education.
“If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”
– Ignacio Estrada
Crossroads provides excellence in remedial education, developing the potential of children with learning challenges to succeed in the mainstream environment.
Message from our School Principal
There is a kind of magic created at Crossroads where children are seen and acknowledged for their individual self and abilities. From the day they arrive, they breathe a sigh of relief and while they do that, our educators and support specialists get to work on how they can stimulate and develop this child’s coping skills and strategies so they flourish in education. Coupled with encouragement, we instill in our children our School Values through our Value Tree. Value Myself, Value Others and Value My Community. By doing so we create a holistic environment where our children acquire skills for life whilst making academic gains.
Our Value Tree
Crossroads School’s Value Tree underpins the education we provide our children. These personal values encompass the foundations upon which Crossroads builds the skills required to overcome individual challenges. They are values that resonate through life.
Crossroads School was established in 1966, by a Speech and Language Therapist whose own daughter had learning difficulties. Since there were no existing facilities for children of average intellectual ability but with specific learning challenges, she and an Occupational Therapist, together with a teacher, answered a need in South African education and established Crossroads as one of the first remedial schools in Johannesburg.
The Crossroads Trust was formed with a Board of Trustees and opened its doors in an old building in Parktown. In 1977 Crossroads School established itself in Victory Park with an enrolment of 80 children.
Crossroads School has grown steadily during its history with capacity at 252 learners and employing a full-time staff of over 50. The School’s Leadership continuously consider where improvements or enhancements can be made to the structure and facilities of the school keeping us up to date with leading trends.
The school admits children from all over Johannesburg, is a registered Non-Profit Organisation with Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) status and is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa.
